The 12th edition of TCS TechBytes witnessed an engrossing State final among the best engineering colleges in Karnataka. The program conducted by Tata Consultancy Services in collaboration with the Board for IT Education Standards (BITES) Govt of Karnataka, saw over 100 engineering colleges in the State participating in the quiz.

This year, the program was held as a combination of online tests and virtual quiz shows, providing students with an engaging digital experience. Students from six regions – Hubballi, Kalaburagi, Mangaluru, Mysuru, Bengaluru and Tumakuru participated. The winners from each of these regions took part in the virtual State finals on 26th March. The finalists included:

Hubballi: Dheeraj Danesh Angadi - KLE Dr. M S Sheshgiri College of Engg. and Tech, Belagavi
Kalaburagi: - Prajwal Hanamapure – Bheemanna Khandre Institute of Technology, Bhalki
Mysuru: Mohammed Meraj Alam – Vidya Vardhaka College of Engineering (VVCE), Mysuru
Mangaluru: Keith Lennor – A.J. Institute of Engineering & Technology, Mangaluru
Tumakuru: Adarsh Vatsa – BMS Institute of Technology & Management (BMSIT), Bengaluru
Bengaluru: Manjunath S. Nayak – RV College of Engineering, Bengaluru

Some of the questions the teams tackled were : Which free and open-source raster graphics editor used for image editing, was created by Spencer Kimball and Peter Mattis? Ans : Gimp. Flora License is a single purpose permissive software license used by the Linux foundation in certain platform components of this OS? Ans: Tizen. Gecko layout engine & Pocket “read-it-later-online” are offerings from? Ans: Mozilla

Few students set the score board ticking in the first round. As the quiz progressed, students from BMSIT, VVCE and KLE locked themselves in a tight battle. Other students who were not fast enough on the buzzer lost ground. BMSIT kept scoring regularly with some brilliant answers.

VVCE and KLE inched their way in the last couple of rounds. However, Adarsh Vatsa from BMSIT had built an unassailable lead to finally emerge State Champion. Mohammad Meraj from VVCE was the deserving Runner-up.

Dr Karisiddappa - Vice Chancellor, Visvesvaraya Technological University Belagavi who was the chief guest on the occasion urged students to make the most of such platforms to enhance their overall technical knowledge. Dr K.N. Balasubramanya Murthy – Chairman BITES, commended the performance of the students. Mr. Sunil Deshpande, Operations Head – TCS Bangalore, presented the Winner with a TCS education scholarship of Rs 75,000/- and the Runner-up Rs 40,000/-. Other finalists received Rs 10,000/-.
